EGERLAND’S HALF-TIMBERED FARMHOUSE MILÍKOV

Egerland’s half-timbered farmhouse in Milíkov presents, through its displays, changes of village life in the region at the turn of 19th and 20th century. The farm, surrounded by picturesque countryside, is an ideal destination for walks and cycling trips.

The hamlet of Milíkov (former Miltigau) is situated on the foot of the mountain range Slavkov Forest, midway from Cheb to Mariánské Lázně. The farmhouse is located near the church, and it has a square ground plan, which is typical for the Cheb region, known also as Egerland. The farmyard is enclosed from all four sides by a residential building with a cowshed, a barn, a shed and a newer building in place of the original cowsheds. The oldest parts of the farmhouse – the barn and the shed – date back to 1781 and 1786.

In 2005, the homestead No. 18 in Milíkov was listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. After an extended reconstruction, during the years 2014–2021, the farmhouse now exhibits displays showing changes in village life in the Egerland during 19th and 20th century. The homestead is a valuable and an authentically preserved example of rural architecture and building technology of timbered walls, typical for the Egerland from the 2nd half of the 18th century.
